Christian Fiscal Court approved rural and secondary road program recommendations from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Tuesday.
Charlotte Cotton with the cabinet outlined the recommendations that include resurfacing just under two miles of Long Pond Road beginning at Fort Campbell Boulevard, resurfacing three miles of KY 117 from KY 272 to Tobacco Road and resurfacing 1.7 miles of Overby Lane going north from US 68.
Another $127,000 in flex funds that can be used at the county’s discretion will be used to resurface about a mile of Bainbridge Road heading west from Dawson Springs Road toward Pennyile Forest.
Cotton says Christian County received the same amount of funding as last year—approximately $1.2 million—but inflation means those dollars aren’t going as far as they did before.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Phillip Peterson gave an update on efforts to make repairs to tombstones and other markers damaged at Rosedale Cemetery by the December 11 tornado in Pembroke, saying the city has contracted to have the work done but the weather has caused delays.
Christian County Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace said for a second consecutive month, more pets found forever homes in March than were brought in.
In other action, magistrates applied for grant funds to repave a portion of Witty Lane using rubber modified asphalt. The remainder of the road has or will be repaved with traditional asphalt and the county will monitor how each method holds up over time.
