Jeffer’s Bend Environmental Center is fired up to start welcoming the community back to their annual events, starting with the Water Festival and then Take Kids Fishing in May.

While the Water Festival takes place May 14, Jeffer’s Bend Steering Committee Chair Charles Turner says the celebration really begins on Friday with a proclamation hearing at Jeffer’s Bend, declaring the week leading up to the festival as Water Week.

The Water Festival will take place from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., with over 30 booths and activities to take part in and completely free to attend.

Then on May 28 is the return of Take Kids Fishing Day, with Turner saying this will be the first time they’ve been able to hold it in a couple of years and they’re excited to have it come back. He says this event is $2 per person and they will have multiple competitions and prizes up for grabs.

That means Big Jeff—an oversized catfish that will be released into the lake at Jeffer’s Bend before the event—is once again up for catching that day. For more information on upcoming events, call Jeffer’s Bend at (270) 885-5600.
