Working in difficult financial times to raise money for their 19 partner agencies, the United Way of the Pennyrile was still able to raise about $726,000 as the campaign came to a close with a celebration breakfast Thursday morning.
Representatives from each fundraising division gave their reports—highlighted by businesses such as Planters Bank raising about $56,000, Jennie Stuart Health and its employees raised $50,600, Pennyrile Electric collected $37,800 and HES $39,000.
While the campaign with a theme of “Baking a Difference” came in just shy of the $750,000 goal, co-chairs Dan Kemp and Brooke Jung said it was still a big success and she thanked everyone who contributed.
The J. William Flowers Award for going above and beyond the call of duty for the United Way was presented to Elzabeth McCoy and the overall People Helping People Award went to Planters Bank.
The Beverly Whitfield Award for someone who dedicates his or herself to supporting an agency, was presented by Nancy Flick to Sherry Turner.
Flick’s late husband, Robert Flick, was presented the award last year following his passing.
Representatives of the agencies supported by the United Way and of the businesses and industries that supported the campaign were on hand for the celebration at the Christian County Senior Center.
