Another battery manufacturer is making a multi-billion dollar investment in Southern Kentucky.
Japanese-based Envision AESC is building a $2 billion gigafactory at the Kentucky Transpark in Bowling Green where they will build battery cells and modules for multiple electric vehicles.
The 30 gigawatt plant will create 2,000 jobs and is designed to be expanded to a 40 gigawatt plant as demand increases.
The 3 million square foot plant is also designed to be environmentally friendly, using a combination of solar power and renewable energy purchased from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The state is providing up to $116 million in incentive programs and another $5 million grant to help train the workforce needed to operate the plant.
The announcement comes about six months after Ford announced it would build a $5.8 billion battery factory in Hardin County.
The plant is expected to be operating by 2027.
