Governor Andy Beshear praised parts of the executive budget approved by the General Assembly, while also criticizing and announcing line-item vetoes of other portions during a news conference Monday morning.
The governor says on economic development, broadband and infrastructure, the General Assembly got a lot of things right.
He criticized lawmakers for not mandating raises for teachers and other school staff and says the General Assembly should have funded universal Pre-K for Kentucky four-year olds.
Governor Beshear has line-item vetoed pay raises for legislators and all constitutional officers, including himself.
He says most of his vetoes to the budget are technical issues.
Legislators will return to Frankfort Wednesday and Thursday with the ability to override any of the vetoes with a simple majority vote in each chamber.
