Marshall seeking to regain Guthrie mayor seat

Former longtime Guthrie Mayor Scott Marshall has filed his papers to seek re-election to that post.

Marshall led Todd County’s second-largest town from 1993 through 2018, when current Mayor Jimmy Covington defeated Marshall.

Marshall says he had emergency surgery in the fall of 2018 and it made him unavailable to campaign the way he would have liked and he looks forward to meeting citizens in the coming months.

He believes Guthrie will see additional growth as Novelis grows and says the city has to be ready to help foster that growth.

Marshall says available and affordable housing will continue to become more of a top priority in Guthrie.

Marshall notes that he has continued to represent Guthrie on the Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors as a citizens representative the last four years.

He intends to get the public more involved in city government, if elected, and says he will run a positive campaign.

Marshall is facing Covington and Guthrie City Councilman Zollie Rose in the non-partisan election.
