Winners of bell hooks Memorial Writing contest celebrated

The Christian County Literacy Council celebrated the winners of their bell hooks Memorial Writing Contest Thursday evening.

Those winners include Madison Bailey of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary and Mariah Gbemudu of Indian Hills in the five to eight years category for poetry, first place for the short story category in ages 9 to 12 went to Honey Blount of Sinking Fork Elementary and first place for the essay in that age group was Mia Gbemudu.

Poetry in that age group went to Jack Cavanah in first place and Avery Pendleton in second, both of University Heights Academy.

In the 13 to 17 years of age category were for essay and poetry—DeKerrieon Whitlock of Hopkinsville High School took first in essay and in poetry, Evelyn Cotthoff of University Heights took first, Samuel Cotthoff of UHA took second and in third was Madison Campbell of Christian County Middle School.

Cassie Ipock took first place in adult essay, with Emma Sunderhaus taking first in adult poetry and Taylor Middlebrook coming in second.
