The two candidates running as Republicans in the race for Christian County Clerk met in debate Thursday afternoon in a League of Women Voters Forum.
Erica Newby and Melinda Humphries are squaring off on the primary election ballot in May. Both candidates agreed that the Christian County Clerk’s Office needs more employees to better serve the public and they would work to address that.
Humphries says her top priorities, if elected, include gaining community input on how they can serve them better and adjusting to changes as they come.
Newby says she would innovate and update the technology at the Clerk’s Office, and streamline the services they offer.
Both agreed that gaining more poll workers during elections is of vital importance, and they hope to reach out to community organizations to address that, if elected.
Whoever wins in the primary election will go on to face Democrat Walter Cummings in the general election.
