Officials have announced that Todd County Middle School and South Todd Elementary School have been awarded grants from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Teachers across TVA’s seven-state region applied for funding of up to $5,000 for projects, and 233 applications were selected.
A news release says the grants are in partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc, a TVA retiree organization, to develop science, technology, engineering, and math education projects to help spark student interest in future careers in science, technology, engineering, and math education-related fields.
Andrew Diedrich teaches computer science at Todd Middle and says “With this money, I plan to purchase a classroom set of Ozobots. The great thing about these Ozobots is the versatility they have. Students will be able to program them online via block coding or offline via color coding. Ozobots will provide students with a hands-on experience with computer programming, engineering, math, and science.”
South Todd Elementary School’s grant was applied for by Erica Skipworth to provide additional resources to help students excel in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math with the purchase of a 3D printer, drones, and more.
Schools who are awarded grants must receive their power from a local power supplier served by TVA. Todd County Middle School and South Todd are served by Pennyrile Rural Electric Co-Op.
