Anthony Gaines, the man charged in the murders of Kierra Wallace and George Gomez, was arraigned in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.
Gaines appeared alongside defense attorney Brandi Jones, who entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf and requested a pretrial hearing be set a few weeks out to give her time to examine evidence and meet with experts.
A pretrial hearing was set for June 1, but Jones also requested an amendment to a court order that she says in negatively impacting her client while he’s incarcerated.
Judge Andrew Self told Jones and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling to work together to create a new order that would suit both parties while not infringing on Gaines’ rights, saying he would set a separate hearing if they were unable to come to an agreement.
Gaines is charged with two-counts of murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
He’s accused in the August, 2021 shooting deaths of his cousin, Kierra Wallace, and George Gomez at a home in Ashwood Village near Peach Street.
