Negotiations toward a plea deal have proven unsuccessful for the suspect accused of shooting two people in March of last year outside the East Ninth Street Marathon gas station and a new trial date has been scheduled.
Defense attorney David Rye and Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling agreed Monday morning that a plea deal couldn’t be reached and Judge Andrew Self set trial for June 13.
As previously reported, Hopkinsville police responded to the Marathon gas station on the evening of March 28 and found 21-year-old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville with gunshot wounds and 38-year-old Bryan Jones of Cadiz later arrived at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Quarles would later be transferred to a Nashville hospital for treatment, while Jones sustained less severe injuries.
Cheatham is charged with attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
