Three killed in Graves County Parkway wrong-way collision

Three people were killed in a wreck on the Purchase Parkway in Graves County Thursday night, including a Clarksville, Tennessee resident and two people from Fulton County.

According to a news release, Kentucky State Police and the Graves County Sheriff’s Department received calls of a wrong-way driver on the Parkway in Fulton County near the four-mile marker. Officers urgently responded to attempt to stop the wrong-way driver, but arrived on a scene to witness a head-on collision.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was identified as 64-year-old Sammy McCarty of Clarksville—he pronounced deceased at the scene by the Graves County Coroner. The driver of the other vehicle in the collision, 50-year-old James Johnson of Fulton, was also killed in the collision, and his passenger, 67-year-old Carla Watson was transported to a local hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

The southbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway were closed for the investigation of the collision and reopened several hours later.
