Grand jury to hear case against Clifty man charged in vehicular assault

A Todd County grand jury will soon hear the first-degree assault charge against a suspect accused of running over a man with his vehicle.

As previously reported, a Todd County Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant for 43-year old Johnny Dukes of Clifty says Joshua Liggons walked to his driveway just before 11 a.m. on March 3 to ask for a ride to Hopkinsville for a job interview and that Dukes then intentionally ran him over with his Volkswagen Beetle.

Dukes fled the scene on Heltsley Lane toward Greenville Road and was arrested later in the afternoon for first-degree assault.

Liggons was able to walk back to his mother’s home, but sustained a broken collar bone, in addition to multiple scrapes and lacerations and was taken by EMS to Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

Dukes had been scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Todd District Court Monday morning, but public defender Darrin Higgs waived the hearing and the case was sent to the grand jury for possible indictment.

Dukes remains in the Todd County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
