Plea deal remains on the table in 2021 East Ninth Street shooting case

Jaylynn Cheatham, the man accused of shooting two men at a gas station on East Ninth Street in 2021, had been set to accept a plea deal Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court, but that was delayed.

Defense attorney David Rye represents Cheatham and says he wants more time to go over the plea agreement in greater detail with both his client and Cheatham’s family, especially in light of what he calls new information concerning Cheatham’s mental health.

After no objections from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Judge Andrew Self set an additional pretrial hearing for March 21.

As previously reported, Hopkinsville police responded to the Marathon gas station on the evening of March 28 and found 21-year-old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville with gunshot wounds and 38-year-old Bryan Jones of Cadiz later arrived at Jennie Stuart Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Quarles would later be transferred to a Nashville hospital for treatment, while Jones sustained less severe injuries.
