Christian Fiscal Court approves ‘premium pay’ for county employees who worked in 2020

Current employees of Christian County government who worked during the first nine months of the pandemic will be getting additional cash following action by Christian Fiscal Court Tuesday morning.

Magistrates approved a resolution giving two dollars of “premium pay” to active employees for each hour they worked between March 13 and December 31, 2020, not to exceed $3,755. The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The resolution includes all non-elected county employees and Magistrate Philip Peterson says they deserve it.

Treasurer Walter Cummings says those checks should be going out within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, magistrates approved a resolution applying for $25 million in RAISE grant funds that would be used for construction of the industrial connector from the industrial parks area to KY 115 and additional safety improvements to 115.

The county committed up to a half-million dollars as a match, if the application is successful, and Judge-Executive Steve Tribble says the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is behind the project.

Hopkinsville City Council is expected to vote on its own version of a resolution in the near future where it would also commit up to $500,000.
