Major League Baseball and the Players Association are talking for the first time since the sides failed earlier this week to agree to a new collective bargaining agreement. ESPN reports the sides met Thursday for an hour and a half to continue talks amid the league’s current lockout. There reportedly is no indication as to when talks will continue.
NFL
The NFL and its Players Association are agreeing to stop all aspects of their joint COVID-19 protocols. This comes after almost two years of restrictions. There will be no more mask requirements, tracking devices, surveillance testing or capacity limits. The only COVID rules to be enforced next season will be those mandated by state or local laws.
NBA
Despite 38 points from Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies fell to the Boston Celtics 120-107 last night. The Grizzlies return home to host the Orlando Magic tomorrow night.
Golf
Princeton’s Emma Talley had a two under par 70 overnight at the LPGA Tour’s HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. Talley is two under for the event and is six shots behind the leaders.
Rory McIlroy is leading the way at the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational after the first round of play in Orlando. McIlroy shot a 65 to finish seven-under par. Three players are tied for second place. Beau Hossler, J.J. Spaun, and Billy Horschel are two shots back of the lead at five-under par. Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker is at one over par 73.
PGA Tour Champions is in Newport Beach, CA for the Hoag Classic that begins today.
