School board sets graduation date for May 27

The Christian County School Board set the graduation date for the high schools at Thursday’s meeting.

Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett recommended the graduation date be May 27, with graduations to take place at the Stadium of Champions as normal. Hopkinsville High School would graduate at 5 p.m. and Christian County High School’s graduation would take place at 8:30 p.m. that evening.

The board approved the date of May 27 unanimously.

The board heard a presentation on learning recovery so far this school year, after students were impacted heavily in loss learning time due the COVID-19 pandemic closures and restrictions. Instructional Supervisor Michelle Walden says while recovery efforts are well underway, there is still a lot of ground to make up, and that’s reflected in a good portion of the data as teachers try to not only recover the lost learning time, but continue advancing their students.

There will likely be summer school type options for those students who want to make up even more educational time, set for June 6 through the 17 Monday through Friday. Elementary and Middle School summer programs would take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. while high school programs would from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
