New plea deal reached in Kenwood Drive shooting case

After some amendments and rescheduling, a plea deal was reached in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday for Shequita Buckner, who was charged in a shooting incident on Kenwood Drive from March of last year.

Buckner has originally entered an Alford plea to second-degree assault, but after some confusion about probation eligibility, that plea deal was thrown out in January. Buckner accepted a new deal Wednesday to the amended charge of assault under extreme emotional disturbance and tampering with physical evidence.  Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling says the new agreement still comes with a recommended seven-year sentence, with the Commonwealth neutral on probation.

Judge John Atkins accepted her plea and set final sentencing for March 23.

Buckner allegedly shot 36-year old Kim Harrell in the arm during an altercation on Kenwood Drive on the morning of March 22, 2021, though Buckner has argued she feared Harrell was armed with a gun. Harrell required treatment at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
