Trial postponed for North Elm shooting suspect

Trial has been postponed for the suspect accused of shooting a woman on North Elm Street in May of 2021 and his attorney says a plea deal is still possible in the case.

Attorney David Rye represents 25-year old Marshawn Taylor of Hopkinsville and says Taylor’s parole from another crime has been revoked and he will be in discussion with Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith about resolving the first-degree assault case.

Taylor allegedly shot 27-year old Marka Smith of Owensboro in the wrist and hip while she was sitting in a vehicle in the 100 block of North Elm. Smith was treated for serious injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Another pretrial conference was scheduled for April 13.
