Modernette’s celebrate Black History Month

The local Modernette Civic Club hosted its annual African American Heritage Breakfast virtually Saturday morning, celebrating Black History Month and locals who have made their own place in history.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch noted the city’s diversity and important place in Kentucky’s story of Black history.

The featured speaker was Bettie Esters-Broadie, a longtime and highly accomplished educator and small business owner, who says Black History Month is a time to reflect on the many trials and successes of African-American people.

The Rev. Lisa Lewis-Balboa moderated the event and Club President Billie Todd introduced many elected officials, candidates  and other officials who watched the remarks and special music at home or elsewhere, with optimism of returning to an in-person event in 2023.
