Local murder suspect arrested in Fayette County

The man sought for murder in connection with the November 28 shooting death of Aniyah Collins in downtown Hopkinsville has been arrested in Fayette County.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year old Deovion Day of Cadiz and served him with a warrant for one count each of murder, first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a felon.

It alleges that Day fatally shot Collins and shot and injured 30-year old Gteria Acree of Hopkinsville. There was an event at the Princess Theater that night and security guards reported that they closed the event down when a fist fight broke out.

The guests then went outside and the warrant says 21-year old Zamarius Humphries pulled a gun on 27-year old Jaquavian Spencer and that Spencer then pulled his own gun and shot Humphries in the neck.

That’s when Day allegedly began firing at Spencer and struck Collins, who was in her car attempting to leave. His gunfire also hit Acree, who was in a parking lot at the corner of East Eighth and Virginia Street.

Hopkinsville Police continue to ask for the public’s help to locate Spencer, who is sought for first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and Humphries for attempted first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
