All of western Kentucky, including the southern Pennyrile region is now under some type of winter weather warning or advisory.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for Caldwell, Lyon, Marshall, Calloway and counties to the west. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the remainder of the Pennyrile region, including Christian, Todd and Trigg counties until 9 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters say up to an inch of snow and sleet and a tenth to a quarter-inch of icing is expected, which could cause some slippery road conditions.
Meteorologist Chris Noles said during a conference call that temperatures have trended colder than expected and icing became more of a concern than it had been for western Kentucky.
Freezing rain will be the primary threat in the advisory and warning areas and more sleet will be possible the farther north and west you go.
Temperatures should warm Thursday and Christian and surrounding counties are expected to receive to an inch or two of plain rain, though Noles says they don’t expect any widespread flooding issues.
There could be some rumbles of thunder and lightning during the event, but severe weather is not expected.
