Lawyers still trying to resolve theft case against former CCHS coach

A trial date will be set next month for the former Christian County High School football coach and athletics director accused of stealing money from the school and athletics program if a plea deal agreement isn’t reached by that time.

Fifty-two-year-old Steve Lovelace appeared in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning with Paducah attorney David Bundrick, who asked Judge John Atkins for another month before setting a trial date while he and the Commonwealth are attempting to iron out the details of a potential resolution to the case.

As previously reported, a Christian County Grand Jury indictment was returned against Lovelace for charges of theft by failure to make required disposition of property (over $10,000) and theft by failure to make required disposition of property (under $10,000).

The indictment says that between January 1, 2014 and December 31 of 2020, Lovelace utilized between 500 and $10,000 in funds designated for Christian County High School football for his own use.

He’s also accused of using over $10,000 in funds designated for Christian County High School for his own personal use.

Judge Atkins scheduled the next pre-trial conference for March 23.
