Motion to return property denied in Clearman Court murder case

A motion for property to be returned to the suspect in a fatal shooting on Clearman Court was denied in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning.

Bobby Spikes appeared virtually in front of Judge John Atkins, and public defender Doug Moore requested that money that was seized from Spikes when he was arrested be returned into his possession. Judge Atkins denied the motion for now however, saying that if it is proved the property does not have evidentiary value in the future it could be released.

Spikes argued that the money does not have evidentiary value, and he’s not the one responsible for writing any affidavits about evidence.

Hopkinsville police allege that on December 8, Spikes and his girlfriend called 35-year old Stanley Bussell to a home on Clearman Court to work on a vehicle.

Bussell’s body wasn’t discovered until 34-year old Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville was found dead in an abandoned vehicle on Cerulean Road in Trigg County and a search warrant was served at Marcel’s Clearman Court home.

The arrest warrant for Spikes says he fatally shot Bussell in the head. Kentucky State Police continue to investigate Marcel’s death and no one has been charged in her murder.
