Bourne retiring as CDS director after nearly 40 years of service

After nearly four decades of service to Hopkinsville and Christian County, Community and Development Services Director Steve Bourne is retiring from the city at the end of May.

Bourne joined what was then the planning commission in July of 1982 as a senior planner and became director within about a year and a half. While he doesn’t intend to quit working, Bourne says he decided the timing is right to retire from the city and find something else to do.

There has been much change and many successes over the last 40 years, including flood prevention efforts by the Surface and Stormwater Utility created in 2006, and work to revitalize city parks and the downtown area.

Bourne thanked his past and present staff and CDS Board members from over the years for their efforts and cooperation.

He also thanked the mayors and county judge-executives he’s worked with over the decades.

Bourne says he doesn’t know what’s next for him, but he’s excited for his next chapter in life.

The City of Hopkinsville has posted the CDS director position under job openings on its website as the search begins for Bourne’s successor.
