Lawmakers discuss masking, military license plate legislation

The full state House could soon consider legislation banning local school systems from mandating masks to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

House Bill 51 recently made it out of committee and state Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says he supports letting parents decide whether their student wears a mask at school.

Representative Lynn Bechler of Marion is the bill sponsor and says colleges and universities should also be barred from mandating masks.

Meanwhile, Representative Myron Dossett expects this condensed four-day week to be a busy one in Frankfort, noting he has legislation to be heard on the House floor that would create a signature license plate for personnel at Fort Campbell and Fort Knox.

The 2022 session of the Kentucky General Assembly is already more than halfway over.
