College Football

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh agreed Wednesday to a new five-year contract with an extension that goes through the 2026 season. This comes after the longtime Wolverines coach interviewed for the Minnesota Vikings head coaching job on national signing day earlier this month. Michigan has not revealed the terms of the deal, which added one more season to Harbaugh’s tenure. Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a 12-and-2 season that featured a Big Ten championship, a win over Ohio State and a berth in the College Football Playoff.

NBA

Ja Morant had 44 points and 11 assists but it wasn’t enough for the Memphis Grizzlies who fell to the Portland Trail Blazers 123-119. Morant will be playing in the NBA All Star Game that takes place this weekend.

Bowling Green native Terry Taylor had 18 points and nine rebounds in the Indiana Pacers 113-108 win over the Washington Wizards.

MLB
The Major League Baseball lockout drags on. The March 31st regular season opening games appear to be in jeopardy, but there is still a chance for a full regular season.
That’s if the owners and players association can hammer out a new Collective Bargaining Agreement in the next couple of weeks. There are reports that a shortened four-week Spring Training in March would still allow enough time for players to get ready for the season.

One of baseball’s biggest stars is turning down a hefty payday. ESPN is reporting that Washington Nationals star outfielder Juan Soto turned down a 13-year, 350 million dollar extension just before the lockout began. If Soto had accepted the offer, it would have paid him an average salary of almost 27-million dollars per year starting this season up until 2034.

NFL

Aaron Donald might not be hanging up his cleats just yet. During Wednesday’s Super Bowl parade, the Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle sparked up the possibility of his return next season. Amid cheers from the Los Angeles fan base, Donald said “Why not run it back? We can be world champs again!” That comes after a report before Super Bowl 56 in which Donald hinted he might retire if the Rams won the game.

PGA Tour

The Genesis Invitational will tee off from the Riviera Country Club in Loa Angeles today. Louisville area native Justin Thomas is among players in the field.

NASCAR

Kyle Larson will begin his trek to defending his NASCAR Cup Series Championship on the pole at the 2022 Daytona 500 on Sunday. Larson will be joined up front by teammate Alex Bowman. Former Formula One Champion and Indy 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve also clinched a spot in “The Great American Race.”
