Joy Closet hosting fundraiser, seeking sponsors to aid children in foster care

A new local non-profit agency aimed at helping children in foster care is introducing itself to the community with a mother-son fundraiser coming up in March.

Heather Gray is the founder of the Joy Closet and says that there are over 200 Christian County children currently in foster care, but there are only around 47 foster families available. That means that a lot of local children are going to surrounding counties, so the need for foster families and a way to support their needs is high.

She says there are numerous ways to help out with the cause, including monetary and item donations, and sponsoring their upcoming mother-son Nerf War on March 26—they are already sold out on tickets, so they’re already planning for a second event.

Hopkinsville Police Department Public Information Officer Mike Atkins says the department is teaming up with Joy Closet to make it fun, safe night for everyone, and they’re happy to work with the non-profit to help those most in need in the community.
