MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 2/14/22

NFL

Could Aaron Rodgers end up staying in Green Bay after all? ESPN is reporting that the Packers are preparing to spend close to the salary cap in 2022 to entice Rodgers to stay. The Packers are also ready to spread money into future years. The 38-year-old Rodgers said Thursday that his past animosity towards the franchise is gone. Green Bay is currently about 50-million dollars over its projected cap for 2022.

The Indianapolis Colts might be jumping in the quarterback carousel. ESPN reports the Colts will probably trade or release quarterback Carson Wentz.
Indianapolis would need to move off him by March 18th to pay less of his base salary. Indy traded its first-round pick in this year’s draft to the Eagles for Wentz last offseason.

The sporting world pauses today to honor an NFL legend. Hall of Fame coach and broadcaster John Madden will be memorialized this evening in the house his team called home. Now dubbed RingCentral Coliseum, the venerable Oakland Coliseum will host a public memorial for the former Oakland Raiders coach later today. Madden died suddenly last month at the age of 85.

Bowling Green native Terry Taylor had 10 points and five rebounds in the Indiana Pacers 129-120 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. The Pacers return to action tomorrow night at the Milwaukee Bucks.
