The Houston Texans announced Monday they promoted Lovie Smith to the role of head coach. Smith served as the team’s defensive coordinator and associate head coach last season. His last head coaching role in the NFL came in 2014-to-2015 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith replaces David Culley, who was fired in January after one season at the helm.
The New Orleans Saints are making an internal hire for their next head coach. ESPN reports the Saints are hiring defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as its new head coach. This comes after longtime Saints head coach Sean Payton stepped down in January. Allen was the Saints’ defensive coordinator since 2015.
