Lawmakers discuss school board public comment bill, child abuse prevention legislation

The Kentucky House recently passed legislation requiring school boards to allow 15 minutes for public comments at meetings and the Senate has approved legislation that would expand child abuse prevention services in the commonwealth.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says the school board legislation is a way to ensure parents and community members have a chance to speak.

Representative Myron Dossett also supported the measure, saying parents have a vested interest and should always be allowed to express their views.

Meanwhile, Senator Whitney Westerfield says Senate Bill 8 would not only expand services for victims of child abuse in Kentucky, it would also give additional services to teens who are aging out of the foster care system.
