MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 2/4/22

NFL

The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Doug Pederson to replace Urban Meyer as head coach. Pederson-who was the first to interview for the Jags vacancy-went 42-37-1 and made three playoff appearances and won a Super Bowl while coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Houston furniture salesman Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is making a huge bet on the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl 56 next Sunday over the Los Angeles Rams. McIngvale placed $4.5 million in best Thursday. If the Bengals win, he makes a cool $7.7 million.

NHL

The Nashville Predators have some time off during the All-Star Break. Preds’ goalie Juuse Saros and defenseman Roman Josi are both headed to the All-Star Game. The All-Star Game is on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Nashville is back in action on Wednesday in Dallas.

MLB

Major League Baseball is turning to an outside source to help end the league’s current lockout. ESPN reports the league requested the immediate assistance of a federal mediator to help resolve its situation.
This comes after the league and the MLB players association failed to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement after multiple weeks of negotiations. The MLBPA would have to agree to the mediator for it to intervene.

Golf

Tom Hoge is leading the way at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after the first round of play. Hoge shot a 63 in the first round and is nine under par. Seamus Power is in second place at eight under. Jonas Blixt and Austin Smotherman are tied for third place at seven under par. Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker had a one over 73 Thursday.
