Ky. gains 8,994 COVID cases, 30 deaths

Governor Andy Beshear says that cases of COVID-19 seem to be on the decline in the state, as he reported 8,994 new cases Thursday.

The positivity rate also continues to fall, now at 25.67 percent—Governor Beshear says data is starting to show that the omicron variant may have peaked in the state, and he hopes to see even more widespread decreases in cases in the coming weeks.

He says each day shows a little less of a surge and they hope that trend continues.

There was 30 newly reported deaths Thursday, bringing the death toll in the Commonwealth up to 13,026 since the pandemic began. There are currently 2,443 individuals in the hospital with COVID-19, 455 in the ICU and 223 on a ventilator.
