A burglary investigation early Sunday morning on Norman Dale Drive led to the arrest of a man on felony charges.
Hopkinsville police were called to the home in the 100 block of Norman Dale about 12:30 for a man inside a home where nobody should be and a suspect was observed through the window.
An arrest citation for 38-year old Wilford Smith of Hopkinsville says he refused to come to the door when officers knocked and a Christian County sheriff’s deputy went inside with a K9.
Police say Smith fought with the dog when it attempted to detain him, using his hands to try and pry the dog’s mouth open when he was bitten.
Smith was cleared at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then arrested for second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and second-degree assault of a service animal.
The K9 did not sustain any serious injuries.
