A major weather system will bring a threat of flooding to western Kentucky this week before the concern turns to wintry precipitation.
The National Weather Service in Paducah sent an email to local emergency managers Sunday morning saying there’s increasing confidence the area will see a major storm system Tuesday through Thursday.
Forecasters say an Arctic cold front is expected to move southeast into the region sometime Wednesday, pushing through the entire region by early Thursday.
Moderate to heavy rainfall, capable of producing some flooding will be possible ahead of the front, with at least one to two inches of rain looking likely at this point.
Along and behind the front, some accumulations of snow and ice are forecast which could impact travel and property across the area.
The National Weather Service says there is still too much uncertainty on the track of this system to pinpoint specific amounts and timing at this time.
