Local Kiwanis club celebrates 100 years

The Kiwanis Club of Hopkinsville is celebrating 100 years of service to the community and they hope to continue growing in the future.

Kiwanis celebrated a century Thursday night at the Country Club and recognized former WHOP owner and general manager Roger Jeffers as the oldest and longest-serving member of the local club, with about 60 years of tenure.

Terry Rudd is the president of the local club and says the Kiwanians’ commitment to serving the community—particularly children—has kept the club vibrant for a century.

He hopes the club will continue to grow and find more ways to help families in need in the future.

Rudd welcomes anyone who wants to become involved with Kiwanis to attend one of their regular meetings at noon Thursdays at the War Memorial Building.

Nikki Chambers was named Kiwanian of the Year and the club inducted Sally Clark Coffeen into its number, as she is a direct descendent of Alvin Clark—the first president of Hopkinsville Kiwanis.
