MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 1/28/22

NFL

The Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs will square off on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game in Kansas City. The Chiefs are hosting the title game for the fourth straight year and are seeking a third straight trip to the Super Bowl. Out west, the rival San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will meet in the NFC Championship Game. Sunday’s winners will meet in the Super Bowl on February 13th in Los Angeles.

NBA

Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies will be on the court when this year’s All-Star game tips off. Morant was named an All-Star starter yesterday.

Speaking of the Grizzlies, they begin a two game home stand this evening hosting the Utah Jazz.

NHL

The Nashville Predators’ three-game winning streak came to an end last night, losing to the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in a shootout. Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene both scored for the Preds. Nashville hosts the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Golf

Princeton’s Emma Talley had an opening round four over 76 Thursday at the Gainbridge LPGA in Boca Raton, FL. Lydia Ko at nine under has a two shot lead on Danielle Kang going into today’s second round.

It’s a three-way tie atop the leaderboard at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego. Adam Schenk, Justin Thomas, and Jon Rahm are 13-under par through the first two rounds. Cameron Tringale is in fourth place at 12-under par. Peter Malnati rounds out the top five at 11 under par. Six players are tied for sixth place at nine under. Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker missed the cut.
