A beloved retired high school agriculture teacher who died in December was honored at Tuesday morning’s Chamber of Commerce State of Schools Eye Opener Breakfast, where attendees also learned more about the consolidated high school project.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel presented the first ever Heart of CCPS Award to Anna Goode on behalf of her late husband, Troy Goode, who taught in the district for 28 years. She says her husband loved his students and they loved him, with many telling her stories of his impact on their lives.
The Inspire Award was presented to Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, Public Library Director Dee Anna Sova received the Engagement Award, Gary Keeton was honored with the All In Award, and the Hopkinsville and Christian County High School bands received the Succeed Award.
Several administrators and students spoke on the various parts of the district’s mission to educate and the program included an update on the high school project. Assistant Superintendent Josh Hunt says the school will allow students to choose their own career path through the academy model.
Architect Jack Faber of Hafer Associates went over some of the particulars in the new school, noting the gymnasium will seat up to 3,400 and its design will evolve when the school’s name and color scheme are chosen.
Kelly Mrsic with Baird Finanical Services says the school system has the bonding capacity and is in good financial condition to move forward with the project and noted it will be prudent to move as quickly as possible to lock in the lowest interest rates possible.
