A trial date was set Monday morning for 16-year old Richard Rawlins of Hopkinsville, who is accused in the October, 2021 shooting death of 19-year old Alex Updegrove on Fairview Drive.
There had been hope of a plea deal being reached by this point, but public defender Munroe Graham told Judge Andrew Self that talks have not been successful.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling said mediation is scheduled for February 11 and there’s hope the sides may still be able to come to a plea agreement.
In the meantime, Judge Self scheduled a two-day trial to begin June 16.
Rawlins was indicted for murder and is being charged as an adult due to the seriousness of the crime.
