Sharp withdraws from congressional race to see state House seat

There is no longer a Republican primary for the U.S. House seat in western Kentucky as David Sharp of Madisonville has withdrawn his candidacy to run for state representative.

Sharp filed his papers to run for the new District 4 seat that would be exclusively Hopkins County, if the recently approved redistricting maps hold up to a court challenge.

Sharp is opposed by Republican Bobby Girvin and Democrat Byron Hobgood.

Congressman James Comer is now unopposed in his bid for reelection.
