Mayor Lynch talks COVID-19 surge, tornado recovery

Hopkinsville is still navigating the struggles of COVID-19 and destructive tornadoes, and Mayor Wendell Lynch is urging people to stay safe and healthy as we move further into the new year.

Mayor Lynch appeared on WHOP Friday morning and says COVID-19 continues to flare up again in the community thanks to the omicron variant, leading him to close the Municipal Center for the remainder of this week in an attempt to slow the spread.

He says people should do what they can to stay safe, whether that be working from home if possible or masking up in public.

Clean-up continues in downtown Hopkinsville where a New Year’s Day tornado struck area of East Ninth Street near Peace Park. Mayor Lynch bragged on the quick actions of first responders that day.

He reminded people to reach out to Christian County Emergency Management to work on filing a claim related to storm damage.

The recent Committee of the Whole meeting was held virtually, and Mayor Lynch asked people to follow the City of Hopkinsville social media pages to stay up to date on any closures or measures related to COVID-19 they might make.
