Attorneys nearing resolution in East First St. shooting case

A plea deal will be reached or a trial date will be set at the next court appearance for the suspect accused of shooting Marque Fricks on East First Street in October.

Attorney Sands Chewning told Circuit Judge Andrew Self this week that he and the commonwealth are getting close to a resolution and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jerad Smith agreed.

A Hopkinsville Police Department arrest citation alleges that Quarles confronted Fricks in the 700 block of East First, shot him in the upper-torso with a 9 mm handgun and then pointed the gun at a woman who was nearby, telling her it was something she didn’t want to get involved in.

Quarles, who is charged with first-degree assault and wanton endangerment, will appear in Christian Circuit Court February 2.
