Vehicle goes into river on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in weather-related accident

Road conditions are slick and hazardous in Clarksville and a vehicle went off Wilma Rudolph Boulevard at a bridge and into the water early this morning.

A Clarksville police officer was traveling on Wilma near College Street about 2:30 a.m. and noticed power lines down near the Red River Bridge.

Further investigation led to the location of vehicle debris near the side of the bridge, leading toward the river.

Clarksville Fire and Rescue utilized sonar equipment and located the vehicle in the water just before 4 a.m. Officials say a dive team will attempt to recover the vehicle as soon as it’s safe.

The roadway was already slick and icy at the time of the accident and it’s believed to have been weather-related.

Clarksville police urge anyone who can to avoid travel this morning.
