Public library receives grant to renovate and upgrade facility

The Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library has been awarded a Public Library Facilities Construction Fund grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives to renovate and upgrade the library.

According to a news release, the library will receive $37,710 a year from KDLA for the next 20 years to assist with debt retirement. The building renovation will enable library staff to provide additional programming for children, teens and adults. It will include a large conference room, quiet study spaces and a makerspace, where patrons with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.

Executive Director DeeAnna Sova says, “This funding will provide the opportunity for improvements and upgrades to be made to our library that will enhance the patron experience. It will provide the opportunity for more advanced programming, provide increased technology, increase the library’s collection and transform the current footprint into a more functional space for patrons.”

The library opened at the current Bethel Street location in January 1977, having moved from the Carnegie Library on Liberty Street. The library is open 6 days a week and provides entertainment, education and programming opportunities for over 2500 patrons each month.
