MORNING SPORTS BRIEFS 1/12/22

College Basketball

Baylor took its first loss of the season as the top-ranked Bears were upset by Number-19 Texas Tech 65-62 in Waco. The Red Raiders snapped Baylor’s 21-game winning streak and the Bears were the final undefeated team in Division-1 men’s basketball after Number-7 USC lost earlier in the day. Texas Tech trailed by as many as 15, before pulling off the upset victory.

College Football

Alabama got some tough news after coming up short in the National Championship game. ESPN reports wide receiver Jameson Williams suffered a torn ACL in the Crimson Tide’s 33-18 loss to Georgia on Monday night. Williams will reportedly undergo surgery on the injured left knee within the next 10 days. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Williams is ranked by ESPN as the top receiving prospect for this year’s NFL Draft. It’s not yet known if Williams will return to Alabama for his senior season.

NFL

The New York Giants are in the market for a new head coach after firing Joe Judge on Tuesday after going four-and-13 this season, including losing their last six games by double-digits. Judge went 10-and-23 in his two seasons with the team after coming over from New England. where he coached special teams and wide receivers.

NBA

Ja Morant lifted the Memphis Grizzlies to a 10th straight win as they beat the Golden State Warriors 116-108 last night in Memphis. Morant scored a game-high 29 points and dished out eight assists. Memphis hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves tomorrow night.

NHL

Matt Duchene scored in overtime to lift the Nashville Predators to a 5-4 win over Colorado last night. Duchene also had a goal in the third period and Luke Kunin lit the lamp twice as well. Tanner Jeannot scored in the first period and Juuse Saros made 40 saves. Nashville has won five straight and improves to 24-11-and-2. The Preds host the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night.
