Todd County grand jury returns indictments for assault, pursuit

An Elkton man who allegedly choked his wife and violated an emergency protective order dozens of times has been indicted by the Todd County grand jury.

Elkton police arrested 23-year old Jordan Hughes of Elkton November 5 on charges of first-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault after his wife reported that he had allegedly choked her on the previous day and wouldn’t allow her to leave the home. She fled and reported the incident after he fell asleep, according to police. An emergency protective order forbidding Hughes from contacting the victim was also served, but police say he contacted the woman numerous times.

The grand jury indicted Hughes for 75 counts of violating an EPO/DVO, stalking and intimidating a participant in the legal process, in addition to strangulation and unlawful imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the grand jury indicted 20-year old Hayden Holland of Pembroke for fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, DUI and other charges related to a pursuit that he led Trenton police and the Todd County Sheriff’s Department on in November
