FEMA still taking applications for assistance from Dec. 10, 11 tornados

FEMA continues to provide assistance to families affected by the December 10 and 11 tornados across western Kentucky and there’s still time to submit an application if you haven’t already done so.

Robert Baltodano is a public information officer for FEMA and says in addition to providing grants for lodging for uninsured families who need a place to stay after their home was made unlivable, they’re helping families with money for home repairs.

He says their assistance isn’t just for folks whose homes were totally destroyed, they can help with less severe issues.

An application is being submitted for a federal disaster declaration for the New Year’s Day tornado in Hopkinsville and Baltodano says residents affected by that EF2 twister should call Christian County Emergency Management at this time if they haven’t already reported their damage.

Applications for FEMA assistance can begin at disasterassitance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA, on the FEMA app or at a local disaster recovery center. The Pembroke center is open until 6 p.m. Wednesday at Maddux Funeral Home on Nashville Street and it will then close until January 15.
