COVID-19 surging in Ky. as 6,915 cases reported, 21.74 positivity rate

Kentucky has broken its own records for new COVID-19 cases and positivity rate, as Governor Andy Beshear reported 6,915 cases Tuesday.

The positivity rate is at an all time high—21.74 percent and Governor Beshear says it’s proof that the omicron variant is now surging in the state just like it is the rest of the nation, so it is time to start masking up in public again, along with getting the vaccine.

He says getting vaccinated and boosted, if you haven’t already, will help you keep from becoming badly sick or worse should you contract the virus—keeping you out of already taxed hospitals.

On the COVID-19 state incidence rate map, the majority of Kentucky is ‘red’, including Christian, Todd and Trigg counties. There are currently 1,646 people in the hospital with COVID-19, 393 in the ICU and 246 on a ventilator.

There were 21 newly reported deaths, putting the death toll in the Commonwealth at 12,255.
