As western Kentucky continues to recover from destructive tornadoes that rolled through the area earlier in December, Todd County Fiscal Court is looking for ways to help mitigate tragedy in the future.
Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith told fiscal court he’s been looking into ways the county can improve their severe weather systems and response, and one big thing he would like to do is install more tornado sirens throughout the area.
He says the dispatch center also needs to be updated, as it is not currently storm safe—he says the county also needs to invest in generators, as many of their government buildings depend on electricity to function.
Todd County has not been added to the FEMA declaration for storm damage, and Smith expects they will not be.
Magistrates approved budgets for both the Todd County Jail and the Clerk’s Office—both of which are fairly similar to prior year budgets. Jailer Jeff Penick says there are some additional costs for fuel, due to rising gas prices, and court security staff have been moved to his budget.
In other action, Misty Carlock was appointed to serve a Todd County Treasurer, filling the vacancy left by Tammy Robertson—Carlock has been serving as assistant treasurer while in training.
