Three bowl games lose teams due to COVID

The Military and Fenway Bowls are the latest victims of the surging COVID-19 outbreak. Both bowl games were canceled Sunday after teams were forced to pull out due to issues with COVID. Boston College was slated to face East Carolina in the Military Bowl, but the Eagles had over 40 players out due to COVID, injuries, opt-outs and transfers. Virginia faced similar issues after multiple positive COVID-19 tests as it was scheduled to play SMU in the Fenway Bowl.

Miami will not be competing in this year’s Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl against Washington State due to COVID. A Miami athletics spokesperson said the number of cases affecting the team’s roster has made it impossible to play because the Hurricanes don’t have enough players. Washington State athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement that the school was working with the Pac-12 and the Sun Bowl on finding a replacement opponent.

There is one bowl game today as Western Michigan meets Nevada this afternoon in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.
